Originally performed by visiting guests and ambassadors before the Chinese Emperor, the Nine Prostrations here symbolize the rituals of salutation as related to contemporary attitudes of accolade throughout the world. |

and gender. They represents a reexamination of the notions of truth,
purity and hypocrisy, in light of their Greco-Roman origins and
the conflicts that arise when these values are superimposed on to
